Track 4: features Desi Casanova and Zodi Zac
The wrong side of the tracks can be the right side of the tracks, depending on what you're looking for. The Numbers is a tribute by G’Odd to the “nice parts of town” in Portland. The inhabitants of which, are constantly under attack in a media war they are not fighting in.
The ep concept is also a response to the omnipresent celebration of material wealth found in mainstream hip hop music. Much like the misogyny and tough guy talk G’Odd has derided in the past, the bragging about money stuff needs to vanish from the mindset.
From the helpless recollections of “Stray from Art”, the faux-celebration of the title track to the character study of a Nietzsche influenced addict destined for death in “Beyond Good and Evil” or the kitty cat themed “Root of this Tree”, it is apparent that “The Numbers” tells a story unique to street art, and not the typical cautionary tale, plea for action or political posturing. It’s simply a snapshot of a time and a place from one person’s perspective, regarding a situation that is rarely represented with any accuracy or ulterior motive based intent.
I’ve sited this quote before, but as Boxhead Walker so succinctly put it in the “Ghostown” single “The more we fuck the city up, the prettier it gets.“
