...REPORTING FROM ODDLANDIA - SPECIAL REPORT “THE SKY TURNED PURPLE: A NEW WEIRD PORTLAND RAP SCENE” An ELECTROSHOCKANDAWE documentary Directed by G’Odd 54min 11 featuring: MENTAL STAMINA and KROW With: G’Odd Zodizac Cass G’Odd recounts his encounters with two unusual and amazing rappers and how they finally came to share the same stage, causing the heavens above to signal their approval. linktr.ee/theoddg Begun with the humble intent to feature two fellow artists for his fledgling talk show, one fateful evening seemed to spark the events that would take the joy and inspiration that G’Odd had felt in finding this pair of oddities and turn it to a fast spreading contagion. That evening’s significance was confirmed when, after a group of half dozen or so people circling the fringes of experimental hip hop, exited the venue to fins the sky bursting with gloriously unnatural shades of pink and purple. The heavens had opened to illuminate the occasion and offer their blessings. In a matter of mere weeks, the first was heard of some vaguely themed networking project, uniting far flung fringe artists under a shared banner, being guided by the DC transplant, Mental Stamina. The Secret Society would debut with an event at Covert Cafe, that would pack the small venue on a Tuesday evening with a freak show/carnival vibe, a multi-media slant, and a healthy dose of hip-hop. There was an undeniable sense among the audience and performers alike that something was happening. Forces were a work. At the core of it all, was a cluster of individuals who comprise a new, weird scene of Portland rappers that are worth investigating further.
